The Ones We Love Never Really Leave Us–Not Even In 2016

Things we learned from those we lost.

Be the greatest. Be the babe with the power. Don’t waste another minute on your crying. Turn to page 394. Make the rules, then break ’em all. Without comedy as a defense mechanism we won’t be able to survive. Life is not all blintzes and sour cream. These days are ours.

A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men. Take a left turn at Albuquerque. Iced tea tastes amazing when it’s half lemonade. Brew glory. Don’t ever want a wagon wheel coffee table. Mockingbirds don’t do one thing except make music for us to enjoy. Make sure you have a system with some phat house speakers, so the new shit can rock, from Bronx to Massapequa.

Your body’s heck-a-slammin. If you don’t happen to find him attractive, your friend might. Find someone who’d move the stars for you. Her beauty and the moonlight will overthrow you. Tell her that you love her, and make sure you’re thinking of her. Never, never doubt what nobody is sure about. Love is not a victory march. I don’t belong to you, and you don’t belong to me.

A woman is like a tea bag, you cannot tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water. Get through this thing called life. Truth hurts like hell. The important thing is, it breathes. There must never be a time when we fail to protest. Never underestimate the power of your sister.

The most rewarding things you do in life are often the ones that look like they cannot be done. You’ve got to love what you’re doing. If you love it, you can overcome any handicap, or the soreness, or all the aches and pains and continue to play for a long, long time. Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated. The ability to have a choice in what you do is a privilege. Ride, Sally. Ride.

Want everything you’ve ever seen in the movies. Instant gratification takes too long. Go nowhere special. It’s great to stay up late. Be just as kind as you can be. This group must somehow form a family. You’ve gotta give for what you take.

Give yourselves an occupation, or you’ll run mad. Learn to work with people you wouldn’t go to lunch with. Civilization began with the invention of the mirror. There’s a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.

Look at the lawman beating up the wrong guy. I have had enough of crime. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for. The judge who always likes the results he reaches is a bad judge. Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth. The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.

Don’t count the days, make the days count. Lighten up while you still can. You can’t relive your life, and there’s no life to compare with pure imagination. Cry and laugh about it all again. We are our only hope. Sing in the purple rain. And no matter what 2017 may bring, have faith — Always.
